The square was busy and full of movement.
Ants carried leaves and food to their homes.
Friends crossed the paths with baskets and flowers.
In the middle of the square, on a small stone stand, stood the Sugar Crystal.
It was shiny and beautiful.
Everyone liked to look at it.
Ohm, Ori, Ciar and Cari were walking through the square together.
Cari stopped first.
She looked at the stone stand.
Then she blinked.
“Wait,” she said. “Where is the Sugar Crystal?”
Ori turned quickly.
The stand was empty.
“It was here this morning,” she said.
Mayor Antonia came across the square and saw the empty stand too.
“The Sugar Crystal is missing,” she said.
The square became very quiet.
Some ants looked surprised.

Ohm stepped closer to the stand.
“Let’s stay calm,” he said. “We can find it.”
Ciar looked down at the ground.
“Look,” he said. “There is sugar here.”

“It is a trail,” she said. “We can follow it.”

“Then let’s go.”
The four friends followed the sugar trail across the square.
It went past a basket of fruit.
It turned near a flower pot.
Then it moved toward the old tunnels.
The tunnel entrance was cool and dark.
Ciar looked inside.
“The trail goes in,” he said.
Ohm nodded.
“We stay together.”
Inside the tunnel, the air smelled of earth and stone.
The sugar trail was easy to see on the ground.
Ori walked carefully in front.
Cari looked behind leaves and small stones.

The trail turned one more corner.
Then it stopped behind a pile of dry leaves.
Cari knelt down slowly.
She moved the leaves aside.

“We found it!” she said.
Ori laughed with relief.
Ciar grinned.
“So this is where it was hiding.”
Ohm picked up the crystal carefully.
It still shone brightly.
The four friends carried it back to the square together.
When Mayor Antonia saw them, she smiled at once.
“You found it,” she said.
Ohm nodded.
“Yes. We followed the sugar trail.”
The ants in the square cheered.
Cari looked at the crystal on the stand again.
“Now it is back where it belongs,” she said.
Ori smiled.
“And we found it together.”
Ciar looked around the bright square.
“That was a good mystery,” he said.
Mayor Antonia laughed softly.

The sun shone over once more.
And the Sugar Crystal sparkled in the middle of the square, safe again.
